Shang Hai


Shang Hai

Located at the moutn of the Yabgtse River where it flows into the East China Sea, Shanghai is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities, as well as an economic center and foreign trade port of China. Main tourist attractions in Shnaghai include Yuyuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Museum, Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and that of Lu Xun, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and the Shnaghai Grand Theatre. A boat tour on the Huangpu River provides a good opportunity of enjoying the different architectural styles of the buildings along its banks. Shanghai is a "Shopping Paradise", the busiest being the spopping centers along Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road. The large buildings in the Bund, are considered the crystallization of modern architecture and epitome of the development of the city in the recent 100 years. It perfectly harmonizes the classic oriental charm with the modermn metropolitan fashion.

Shanghai has distinctive four seasons a year with long winter and summer while short spring and autumn. The four seasons are all favorable for tourists since it is neither bitter cold in winter nor burning hot in summer. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for tourists though.

Main Attractions:

The Bund -
The Bund is the symbol of Shanghai. It starts from Waibaidu Bridge in the north and reaches Nanpu Bridge in the south. There are various buildings of different styles, and the Bund has long enjoyed the reputation as " a gallery of international modern architecture".

Yuyan Garden -
Located in the northeast of the Old City Proper in the southern urban district, the Yuyuan Garden was first built in 1559. The main scenic spots in it include the Grand Rockery, the Dragon Wall, Hall of Jade Magnificence, Huijing Tower, and Ancient Drama Stage. The delicate design and exquisite layout of the whole garden give visitors impressions of superiority. The garden is acknowledges as "superior in the regions south of the Yangtze River for its rarity and beauty.

Shanghai Old Street -
Located in Fangbabg Zhonglu, the Old Street is 825 meters long and divided into two parts, linking Renming Lu in the east and Henan Lu in the west. The east part of the Old Street reappears the features of folk residences of the late Qing Dynasty, and the west part mailny follow the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, from the shops and stores with classic beauty.

The Ancient City Wall and Dajing Pavilion -
As the only part of ancient city wall in existenceconstructed in the Ming Dynasty i urban Shanghai, it was built in the 32nd year of the reign of Jiajing in the Mong Dynasty (1553), to resist the aggression of Japanese pirates. The oval city wall that time was completed in three months by the local people. When the wall was torn down in 1912, a part was preserved for the Dajing Pavilion, thus it became the testimony of Shanghai's history. The Pavilion has a Xichun Platform, Stone Archway, and has an exhibition of the historical sites in the old city proper.

People's Square -
The People's Square is the largest public square and the political and cultural center in the heart of Shanghai. There is a musical spray pond at the center of the square and to the south of the pond is Shanghai Museum.

Orient Pearl TV Tower -
Located in Lujiazhui of Pudong New Area, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower was built in 1994, with a height of 468 meters. The tower is composed of the tower base with three batter posts, and three standing pillars (with elevators), holding 11 steel-structure spheres. There are three superdome spheres : the Space Cabin, the Upper Superdome sphere with a revolving restaurant in it, and the Lower Superdome with a sightseeing veranda.

Nanpu Bridge -
This is the first stayed-cable bridge over the Huangpu River. It si the No.1 of China and No.3 of the world among the bridges of the same type.

Shanghai Botanical Garden -
The garden is divided into three areas: Environment Protection Plant Area, Plant Evolution Area, and Man-made Ecological Area. It is composed of over ten special gardens: The Potted Landscape Garden, the Pine and Cypress Garden, the Peony Garden, the Maple Garden, the Osmanthus Garden, the Herbal Medicine Garden,and the Bamboo Garden, among others. The Potted Landscape Garden is the most attractive spot, wherein the oldest pomegranate tree stool grows.

Jade Buddha Temple -
It is one of the most famous Buddhist Temple in China, for the well-known Jade Buddha Statue. Carved from a whole piece of white jade, the sitting Jade Buddha statue is transluscent with a solemn expression.

Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen -
The residence is a two-storey Western-style building with lawn in front and int he reception room with a dining room at the ground floor. Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his wife Soong Ching Ling resided here for 6 years (1918-1924). Dr Sun finished many important works here such as the Theory of Sunwen and fostered the first co-operative activity between the Communist Party of China and the Komintang. The books and furniture exhibiting the residence are all of the original article and order and kept unchanged till today, which are extremely precious.

Former Residence of Lu Xun -
It is a three-storey building with red bricks and red tiles with appearance in the style of folk residences in Shaoxing, hometown of Lu Xun. He lived here during the period from 1933 to October 19, 1936 before his death. It was in this residence that Lu Xun wrote over 280 fighting essays and kept on fighting till his last breath.

Shanghai Art Museum -
Located in 325 Nanjing Xilu, Shanghai Art Museum was founded in 1956 and rebuilt in 1986 in accordance with the functions of an exhibition hall. Boasting a floor area of 18,000 square meters and an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters, the museum has over 4,000 pieces of art works. The museum is shaped like that of a warship with an artistic style of solemness, conciseness,and elegance.

Suzhou -
It is located in the central part of the Yangtze River Delta. Suzhou is celebrated for its beautiful landscapes and abundant resources. Suzhou embroidery is known for its exquisite craftsmanship beyond comparison.There are a large number of scenic spots in this ancient city known as " Paradise on Earth"; among these are the Panmen Scenic Area,Tige Hill,Fenqiao Scenic Area, and the Pingjiang Historical Streets. It also boasts of 280 fresh and elegant gardens. It has a convenient transport system and is an excellent tourist destination in China.
