Wuhan

 

Wuhan is the capital of Hubei Province .  The City of Wuhan is known as one of China 's famous cities of historical and cultural importance.  It is abundant in tourism resources.  Some of its scenic spots are in the urban districts: The Yellow Crane Tower is a famous scenic resort and Donghu Lake is one of China's major scenic resorts.The Guiyuan Buddhist temple is famous for its 500 Arhat statues and Jade Buddha.  The Guqin (Ancient Stringed Musical Instrument) Terrace is famous for its legend  about how an ancient Chinese musician and a woodman became intimate friends in this place.  The Wuhan Zoo is an all-around zoo in Middlesouth China , and Zhongshan Park and Jiefang Park , attract numerous visitors every year.  The scenic spots in the suburbs include Mulan Mountain, home of the woman general Hua Mulan; the Mulanhu Scenic Resort; the Daoguan River; the Longquanshan Scenic Resort; and the Ruins of Ancient Culture at Panlongcheng.

Because of its favorable geographical location and dense waterways, Wuhan has been a commercial and trading center and a place of strategic importance. It is now an industrial, financial, commercial, scientific, cuntural and educational center in Central China .

Located in the subtropical zone, Wuhan has a warm and humid monsoon climate.  The four seasons are distinctive here and it is hot and dry in summer. Wuhan , together with Chongqing and Nanjing , are known as the three furnaces of China  due to their extreme summer heat. The best time to visit Wuhan is March to June and September to November.

Main Attractions:

The Yellow Crane Tower - It is located on the Snake Hill on the southern banks of the Changjiang River .  It was first built in 223, and has been destroyed and rebuilt many times.  Today's Yellow Crane Tower is composed of a main building, side pavilions, corridors, memorial archways, a corridor of stone tablets inscribed with poetry, and an ancient commercial street. It is sophisticated and splendid with its roof of double eaves and golden glazed tiles.

Donghu Scenic Resort - Donghu Lake is famous for its vast, crystal clear water, numerous fishing boats, zigzag banks, and interlaced streams. It divided into six zones: TingTao (Hearing Surfs), Moshan Mountain , Luoyan, Baima (White Horse), Luohong, and Chuidi (Playing Flute) scenic zones.

Cherry Blossoms on Luojia Mountain - Yinghua (Cherry Blossoms) Street at Wuhan University is at the foot of the university's former College of Sciences and library.  The flourishing cherry blossom trees along the two sides of the streets are arranged in order and are in full bloom in the second half of March.

Qingchuan Pavilion - It is located on the north bank of the Changjiang River , and is separated from the Yellow Crane Tower by a river.  The pavilion was first built during the Ming Dynasty, and was rebuilt in 1983.

Moshan Mountain and the Chu Fortress - Moshan Mountain is surrounded by water on three sides.  It has six peaks, the highest of which is the East Peak , which looks like a round stone quern.  The Chu Fortress shows the charm of the Chu Culture. In front of the fortress gate re banners with patterns of two phoenixes treading flutes.

Guqin (Ancient Stringed Musical Instrument) Terrace - It is located at the west foot of Guishan Mountain in Hanyang.  It is said that Yu Boya played his stringed musical instrument there, and a passer-by woodman, Zhong Ziqi, well understood the feelings conveyed in his performance, hence they became bosom friends.  When Zhong died of illness, Yu grieved deeply, threw his stringed musical instrument into pieces and never again played music. People built this  terrace in memory of Zhong and Yu.

Guishan Television Broadcasting Tower - It is the first multi-functional television broadcasting tower with a reinforced concrete structure designed and built by China in 1986.  It has a revolving hall, watching hall, and an open-air platform.  You will see the whole city of Wuhan when you are on top of the tower.

Changchun Taoist Temple -  It was built along the mountain in the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368).  The structure of the halls and pavilions, the sculptures on the girders and pillars and shrines in the halls are all lifelike and exquisite.  It shows off typical Taoist architecture and a strong local color.

Guiyuan Temple - The temple was first built in 1685, the fifteenth during the reign of Emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty.  The construction of the temple lasted 100 years.  It has more than 200 halls and bays, with a floor area of 20,000 square meters.  The temple is abundant in flourishing trees and is famous for its 500 gilded  Arhat Statues displayed in the Hall of Arhats.

Baotong Temple - First built in the Southern Dynasties, it is famous for its sonorous bell.   There are two huge iron bells in the temple, a pair of stone lions, and ancient pine trees.

Tiemen Pass - It served as the only passage in northeast Hanyang in ancient times.  It is said that the pass was built by Wu State to defend the army of Wei State in the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280).

Mulanshan Scenic Resort - This birthplace of the adcient legendary heroine Hua Mulan, is also a tourist attraction and is of religious importance. Hua Mulan was a heroine in the Northern and Southern song Dynasties, who disguised herself as a man as as to be recruited into the army in place of her old father.  She fought bravely for 12 years and ws promoted to be a general.  She refused to enjoy her royal salary, but instead took off her armors and returned home to take care of her old parents.  She died at the age of 90 and was buried on the north side of Mulan Mountain .

Mulanhu Holiday Resort - Legend says that the horse of General Hua Mulan drank on Mulan Lake in this resort, hence the name.  The lake has a 57-kilometer-long shore, 132 streams, 23 islets, and 13 springs. On the east shore are 100,000 birds of different species.

Longquanshan Scenic Resort - Nine royal mausoleums of the Ming Dynasty were built here, with 48 tombs of celebrities of various dynasties.  The tombs at the foot of Tianma Peak are in royal architectural style of the Ming Dynasty.

Daoguanhe Scenic Resort - The resort has 30 species of migratory birds, has rolling hills, and crystal clear rivers.  There are many scenic spots and interesting places including the Baoen Temple , lotus Fairyland, and the Honeymoon Island .
